Positioning

I just sat down for lunch. Was several mouthfuls in and then I realised I was facing the wrong way. You see, we’re housesitting at the moment in a beautiful home with incredible ocean views. But I had sat down at the table with my back to the window, I had sat down at the table facing a blank wall.

Positioning is important.

In that moment of realisation I had a choice. Was I going to stand up, rearrange the table, take a walk, and face the other way? Or would I take the simpler, easier option of not moving?

I moved.

And it was worth it. The view is amazing. Constantly changing, inspiring, new things to see and take in at every moment. The Bible is full of imagery around positioning. Positioning yourself for battle, positioning yourself to wait and see what God will say or do, positioning yourself in relation to others and elevating them ahead of yourself because it matters where we place ourselves.

Positioning is important.

So as we get ready to enter 2021, what is your position? Have you resorted to the simple and easy option of staying where you are, facing the wrong way and missing out on the ever-changing view that God has for you? Are you staring at a blank wall and suffering the lack of inspiration, drive or faith as a result? Or are you prepared to move yourself, to position yourself in the Word, to position yourself at the feet of Jesus, to position yourself in line with the Holy Spirit, to make the moves necessary so that you don’t miss out on all God wants to reveal to you.

I will take my post; I will position myself on the fortress. I will keep watch to see what the Lord says to me and how he will respond to my complaint. Habakkuk 2:1 CEB

Like Habakkuk, we might have many complaints from this last year but let’s not get stuck in them. Let’s take them to God and see what He has to say.

Don’t miss out in 2021. Let’s be people who get up and get moving, who get the right perspective, and position themselves ready to receive all God has to give.
