Move

You would figure that a hot, fiery, explosive mass so large a million earths could fit inside would be powerful and yet our sun is so far away that it’s easy to forget just how formidable it is at times. Did you know that on a sunny day, the Eiffel tower in France leans away from the sun towards the shade and can lean as much as 7 inches?! It’s because the metal facing the sun heats up, expands and that allows the top of the tower to make its move…

Going in and out of multiple lockdowns can leave us feeling contained, stunted, held back. It might feel comfortable, but comfort is so often restrictive. Comfort can hold us back from making a move and stepping out.

When was the last time that you saw expansion and movement in your life?

I’m going to suggest that if we want to shift and see growth then we need to make sure we’re not getting cold. Lockdown might make us feel rooted to the spot – I mean the Eiffel Tower isn’t going anywhere – yet despite all odds, there’s still an opportunity for movement and change. You just need power from outside yourself.

Multiple times in the bible Jesus is described like the sun: “…his face was like the sun shining in full strength” (Revelation 1:16 ESV) and during the transfiguration “sunlight poured from his face” (Matthew 17:2 MSG). Jesus’ splendour is like the sunrise and power bursts forth from his hands like rays (Habakkuk 3:4 NIV).

Want to be a mover and shaker? Then you need to warm up in the Son’s presence. Allow his power, his strength, and his light to transform and propel you to action. Don’t be setting goals in your own strength – that will cool off or burn out far too quickly. Be still long enough to let the heat of his presence do its work, and then go, go lean into the dark places around you taking his warmth, light and power.
