Kindness

Our small group have been studying 1 Corinthians for almost a year… and this week we made it to chapter 13! As I was spending some time around these verses, I have been struck all over again at the kindness of God. God is love and verse 4 tells us that love is kind. “The Lord is righteous in everything he does; he is filled with kindness.” (Psalm 145:17 NLT).

Sometimes people talk about being ‘undone’ by someone’s kindness. The idea that their kindness to you is so great, so undeserved, so overwhelming that you’re left exposed, not knowing how to even begin to respond. How can you ever repay their kindness? Paul helps us out in Ephesians, the response to God’s lavish kindness? Praise.

“So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.” (Ephesians 1:6-8 NLT)

God has showered his kindness on you, along with all wisdom and understanding. Stop. Read that again. God, the omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent God, has showered, lavished, poured out… his kindness… on you. Take some time this week to ask Holy Spirit to reveal the kindness of Jesus to you. And then stop again. And praise.
