Those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.
Psalm 34:9-10
How much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!
Luke 11:13
I love watching little kids play hide and seek. They cover their eyes with their chubby little fingers making sure to leave a gap so they can peek through. They want to see where the person has gone. They want to be able to find them. In their little minds, why would you completely cover your eyes? The hider would be hidden and then what would you do?! Or, when a young child is the one hiding. They can’t help but make noises, even call out ‘I’m over here’… And when you ‘find’ them, they giggle with glee and delight in the fact they’ve been discovered. As they get older, they learn the rules of the game properly and make sure they’re not looking but, sometimes, they still need the help of someone who has seen to gently guide them in the right direction.
I think God wants us to play hide and seek with him as if we were little children. At times we might think that He’s hiding from us and silent. But I think He’s leaving little clues all over the place as to where He is and what He’s up to. Sometimes, in our grown-up grumpiness, we have forgotten how to play the game. We assume that God is distant, silent, not there for us, and give up, when actually, He’s there all along.
He’s also provided the ultimate helper for when we feel lost in knowing where to look. God knows that when we seek Him we will not lack any good thing. Any good thing! But He also knows that, like little children, at times, we’re at a total loss for how to see Him at work, how to understand, how to hear His voice calling out to us, “I’m over here…”
That’s why He’s given us a guide to gently nudge us in the right direction, “try over there”, or, “come with me, I’ll show you, I’ll help you…” God is never completely hidden from us because He’s given us His Holy Spirit to help us come back to Him, to help us hear His voice, to help us discover and find Him. God is waiting to be found in all areas of your life – your workplace, your school, your home life, your relationships, your finances, your troubles, your joys – let’s go seek…
