Dilemma

A while back, my hubby and I watched The Social Dilemma, a docudrama detailing the negative effect social media has on individual’s mental health and how the very design of it aims to manipulate and create addiction all in the name of increasing profit margin. Eugh.

I was struck partway through when I heard these words, “if we can’t agree what’s true we can’t navigate our way out of any of our problems.”

Unlike society would have us believe, truth is not something we all own – there’s no such thing as ‘my truth’ or ‘your truth’. There is only the truth. And, agreeing with The Social Dilemma, when you know the truth, then you will be free (John 8:32).

More than ever, we need the truth. We need to be anchored, secure and steadfast in a world that is constantly changing and throwing curveballs left and right. We need to know the truth that is the same regardless of the day, time or season. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” (John 14:6) He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He is the steadfast and unchanging foundation we need (Malachi 3:6, James 1:17).

So the next time you’re facing a problem and are struggling to navigate your way out of it, take it to Jesus. He is the truth that leads forward to a fully free life.
